Pay Respect

It is with sadness that we report the passing of Major (Retired) Timothy Stephan Wyatt Churcher (28 Oct 39 – 1 Mar 20) following a period of illness. Tim commissioned into the Parachute regiment and served with 1 Para until he attended Army Pilot Course 203 at Middle Wallop in 1968/69. On completion of his course he was posted to 664 Squadron, then in support of 16 (Para) Brigade, a tour that included deployments to Norway, Kenya and Cyprus. He was appointed as Sioux Flight Commander and Squadron 2IC in May 1971. In late 1972 he was posted to a Staff Captain in the Brigade Headquarters but managed to escape within a year for training as a QHI. His assessment for that selection relates that, “Captain Churcher’s forte has been his ability to assess and educate the pilots of his flight and to extract the best from them. He is a thoroughly professional soldier and has been of immense value to the Squadron”. Tim was promoted to Major whilst on the course and then posted to Middle Wallop as a QHI in early 1974. He retired from the Army in the late 1970s but continued to fly in civilian life. Our thoughts are with his wife, Judy and their sons, and also with his many friends and comrades at this sad time.
There will be a cremation service for Tim attended by family and close friends only on 17 Mar 20. A service to celebrate the life of Major TSW Churcher will be held at 1400 hours in All Saints Church Weston Longville NR9 5JU on Wed 18 Mar 20. Please inform RHQ AAC if you intend to attend the Church service on 18 Mar 20.
