Pay Respect

It is with great sadness that we have learned that In Pensioner Sergeant David Arthur Vincent Jackson (9 Oct 37 – 3 Jul 21) has passed away aged 84 at the Royal Hospital Chelsea following a period of illness. David will be known to many of us in the Corps as the jovial, scarlet coated Chelsea Pensioner who attended many of our events. He was also a genial host and guide for AAC visitors to the Royal Hospital Chelsea over many years.

David enlisted as a Boy Soldier with the Royal Armoured Corps at Bovington in Dec 52. He served at Regimental Duty in Malaya, Bovington and Northern Ireland between Feb 56 and Nov 58 before a tour at the Army Apprentice School in Harrogate. On completion of his time in Harrogate in Oct 61 David attended the Army Pilot Course, graduating in Dec 62. That was followed by an immediate deployment to Aden in Dec 62 to join 653 Sqn/15 Flt AAC. That tour was completed in Dec 65, with a CinC Commendation for his service in theatre. David returned to Middle Wallop in Feb 65 and joined 130 Flt AAC in preparation for a short tour 14/20H Air Troop in Libya and then a tour with 21 Flt AAC in Cyprus. He re-joined 130 Flt AAC at Middle Wallop in May 66 before retiring form service in Oct that year.

Our thoughts are with his daughter, Naomi, his family and the many friends that he made during his service with the Corps and during his time at the Royal Hospital.
