Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is with deep regret that we report the deaths of Major Neville James (Sam) Law AFC (21 May 32) and his wife Margaret Law.
Sam died on 17 May 19 and Margaret died 8 days later on 25 May 19 at the St Luke’s Nursing Home, Scothern, Lincoln. They both died peacefully in their sleep.
Sam enlisted in the Infantry (Green Jackets – KRRC) in 1950 and served in the UK and Germany. He began flying training in 1958 and was posted to 656 Sqn in Malaya. There he met Margaret. Sam received a MID when the Emergency ended in 1960 and was accepted into the AAC Permanent Cadre in 1962 and promoted to SSgt.
Margaret and Sam were married in 1967 and Sam was commissioned into the AAC in 1968. Over the next few years they moved between Wildenrath, Detmold and Topcliffe including a conversion to helicopters and command of 12 Flt AAC and 3 Flt AAC. In 1980 Sam was awarded the Air Force Cross. During the early eighties he spent time commanding the Beaver Flt in Northern Ireland and in 1984 assumed command of D&T Sqn at Middle Wallop. Sam retired from uniform on 24 May 89. He became RO2 Trials at HQ DAAvn and finally removed his flying suit and retired in 1995. Sam and Margaret then moved to Lincoln for their retirement.
