It is with sadness we report the death of Lt Col Frank Penfold MBE, REME (Retd) of Linton, Cambridgeshire, who passed away peacefully at home on Friday 9th December aged 88 years.
In 1942 at the age of 14 he joined the Army Apprentice (Technical) school in Arborfield, and continued to serve for a further 39 years, 18 of which were attached to the Army Air Corps (656 and 651 Squadrons.)
Frank served with 656 Squadron between 1958 and 1961 in Kuala Lumpur, where he was ASM in the Squadron Workshops, and went on to receive an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 1969. He was one of the earliest members of the Association.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and ever loved by his daughter Serena and grandchildren, Lucy and Richard.
