It is with sadness that we report the passing of Lt Col (Ret’d) Michael Alfred Perry on 1 Oct 19 at the age of 77 (9 Jun 42 – 1 Oct 19). Mike qualified as an Army Pilot on Course 168 in 1965 having commissioned in to the Royal Artillery in 1961. Though he had a brief career break with the AAC TA in 1979/80. he retired from service in 1989 to settle in Guernsey. This was at the end of a varied and interesting service history, which included a Mention in Despatches. He was a member of a variety of Air Troops in the pre-centralisation era, including the QDG and RHA in Aden and 17/21L in NI.
He was instrumental in developing the AAC Blue Eagles Display Team in the late 1960s and OC of the Anti-Tank trials squadron in the early 1970s. Mike commanded 655 Squadron in NI before embarking on a number of GS Staff jobs that included the Helicopter Futures Programme. His final appointment was as SO1 O&D in HQ UKLF.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Sukey and their daughters, Jo, Clare, Jo and Sophie.
