It is with sadness that we report the passing of Major (Retd) Paul Joe Presland BEM (11 Nov 50 – 02 Dec 19) following a period of illness.
Paul enlisted for service in the Royal Artillery 1967. He qualified as an Army Pilot on Course 264 in the company of notable characters that included the then Lieutenants Gary Coward and Tim Mace (who went on to train as an astronaut). Paul went on the fly Lynx and Gazelle in 2 and 3 Regiments between the completion of his course and 1984. He then qualified at RAF Shawbury before returning to Middle Wallop in 1985, where he was commissioned. A tour in 9 Regt AAC in 1989 was followed by an attachment to 7 Squadron RAF between 1992 and 1995.
He returned to Regimental Duty with the AAC in 1995 and retired from service in 1997. Paul was a well liked and much respected member of the Corps who was a keen sportsman and cricketer. Our thoughts are with his family and with his many friends at this sad time. Paul’s funeral will be held at Great Finborough Church, Stowmarket at 1300hrs on Mon 16 Dec 19. His wake will follow at Stowmarket Golf Club.
Kind Regards
Vic
