MAJOR GENERAL T A RICHARDSON CB MBE (LATE RA) EX COLONEL COMMANDANT
It is with great sadness that I inform the wider Army Aviation family of the recent death of Major General T A (Tony) Richardson CB MBE, at 5 p.m. on Thursday 26th March 2015, at Kingston-upon-Thames Hospital.
Major General Tony Richardson was educated at Wellington College and Edinburgh University and had a distinguished Army Career spanning from 1942 as a Special Entry Cadet to 1983 where he completed his career as the Colonel Commandant Royal Artillery.
He was also Director Army Aviation between 1971 and 1974, having taken over from Maj Gen Dare Wilson who had overseen the transition of the appointment from Director Air/Land Warfare in 1970. This was during the period when the Army Air Corps were centralising. Major General Tony Richardson was also President of the Air Observation Post Officers Association for many years.
A very keen sportsman, he achieved many appointments, such as Commodore Army sailing Assoc 1970, 1 RHA Team and Organiser of Army Ski Meetings when CRA 2 Div,
Capt of the Mil College Sevens 1947/48 and Chairman of the RA RC, Secretary of the Garrison Shoot 1957/58 and Chairman of the BAOR Free Fall Parachuting Club.
Unfortunately we have no funeral details at this time, once known they will be published.
Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
