It is with great sadness I inform the wider Army Aviation family of the recent death of Major General J A Stephenson CB OBE on
Sunday 24th May 2015 at Winchester Hospital.

Major General John Aubrey Stephenson was born on the 15th May 1929. Educated at Dorchester Grammar School and then at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, commissioning in 1948.
He led a distinguished military career spanning from 1948 as a young officer with the Royal Artillery (also serving as a Lt (Pilot) 652 AOP, Capt 1 RHA, Maj 25 Med Reg RA, Lt Col RMCS, Brig HQ 1 Arty Bde, Maj Gen MOD (PE)-UK) to 1984 where he completed his career as the Colonel Commandant Royal Artillery.

As well as his military career, he went on to become the Managing Director for Weapon Systems Ltd, Governor of Hardye’s School Dorchester, President Houghton Branch of the RBL,
and was a Defence Consultant.

Our thoughts are with his wife Shelia and daughter Susan and two sons, Douglas and Peter.

There will be a combined Funeral and Thanksgiving Service to be held at 1400 hrs on Friday 19th June 2015, at St Peter’s Church, The High Street, Stockbridge, Hampshire, SO20 6EX.
Former friends and colleagues are welcome to attend in a private capacity. There will be light refreshments after the Service in the immediate locality.

Major General Brian W Davis CB CBE (Late RA and Col Comdt (Ret’d) is acting as point of contact for further information if required. He will also be reading a Tribute at the Service.
