It is with great sadness that we report the passing of WO1 (Retd) RJ Walker (Richard (Ritchie)) AAC/Para at the age of 68 (14 Aug 50 – 4 Feb 19) after a short battle with cancer. Richard enlisted for service with the Parachute Regiment in 1973. He transferred to the AAC in 1980 and qualified as an Army pilot on APC 271 in 1981, following a tour with 3 Flt AAC as an Aircrewman (O). He had an interesting and varied career and was an experienced pilot who was well known in the Corps. That career embraced 656 Sqn, which took him to Honk Kong and the Falkland Islands, for Op Corporate and the UN Flight in Cyprus from 1983 to 1986. He converted to Lynx in 1987 for a tour with 3 Regt AAC and then embarked on a series of postings that took him to 658 Sqn, 606(V) Sqn, 664 Sqn in Minden, 12 Flt in Wildenwrath and finally to 1 Regt AAC, where he served with 651 Sqn AAC before taking on the task of Unit Welfare Officer in Gutersloh before retirement in 2005. Over that long and varied career he gathered many friends. Our thoughts are with his family and those friends.
It is regretted that we have no details of his funeral at this point. His family simply wished for us to inform the Corps and the Veterans.
