It is with sadness that we report the passing of James Thornton (Jim) McDonald (26 Jul 47 – 2 Apr 21). Jim enlisted for service with the Royal Signals in Nov 71 and after a period of training at Catterick was posted to 7 Armed Bde HQ & Signal Sqn based at Soltau in Germany. In 1974 he transferred to the AAC and was posted to 655 Sqn AAC of 9 Regt AAC, with its HQ in Detmold. There followed a period at the Depot Regiment AAC in Middle Wallop and a final posting to 7 Regt AAC at Netheravon. Jim retired from Service in Dec 84. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. His funeral was held in his Northern Ireland homeland on 7 Apr 21.

From Paul Crouch

Sorry to report that Colin “Ruby” Murray ex 17th/21st Lancers has passed away. He served with my Dad Jim Crouch in the 70’s. He was a Lancer from 1968 to 1973. Then AAC 1973 to 1979. I believe he became an air gunner in 657 Sqn? After my Dad left the Army he visited us when he was based at Wallop. He leaves behind his wife Evelyn. Hopefully someone can fill in the gaps about his time with the AAC.

Unfortunately, last weekend we lost another veteran, former Airtpr Matt Blythe. I believe that Matt was at 4 Regt HQ MT around 1999/2000 and was posted to 1 Regt a bit later. RIP

If anyone would like to donate towards Matt’s funeral expenses, please see the following link: https://gofund.me/ec8d0be4

Harrison, Neil

Dear All
I have taken this from Nick Burton’s post on the AACVA Page 🙁
Hi Guys,
Regarding Neil (George) Harrison with a request for admin and funeral info.
Update here.
I have been contacted by George’s family (brother Dave), he informed me as to what happened.
Without going into too much detail on here, I will gently say that on Tuesday night, George drove to Woodbridge, parked in a layby and left a note on his car, he then entered the woods and went to sleep.
A passerby saw the note on the car, read it and then started to look for George, the passerby found George sleeping in the woods
😥

From Phil Bartle

UPDATE on Neil Campbell’s funeral.
Neil’s Service will be held at the crematorium next Fri 15th Jan at 1300hrs in Barrow-in-Furness.
Restrictions means the attendance is limited to 25 people but as Neil had a small family there are spaces to attend if you would like to.
Please PM myself as I’ll be managing the numbers from the Military friends.
Although Neil was only in the army for a short period (3-4 years) he continued to be a proud veteran and always spoke highly of the AAC at every opportunity. If Neil had one regret, it was not remaining in service for a longer period.
His family have asked for an AAC Plaque which I’ll pull together but if anyone has ideas that you’ve seen in the past please PM me. I would like to give his son (16) something he will be proud of when he looks at it.
